FAQs

  • The unfortunate answer is, it depends. Some clocks can be cleaned up in the home for $225. Others need to be rebuilt, bushed, cleaned, and properly timed. The best way for us to give you an estimate is to contact us with details about your beautiful machinery and, most importantly, include photos.

  • While there is a small deposit, you can expect to pay the bulk of the repair cost once the item is returned to you. We want you to see the finished work before you pay in full so you know your item has received the love and attention it deserves.

  • Simple service calls can usually be scheduled within two weeks of your initial contact with us. If a full service is required, it usually takes about 6-8 weeks but can be up to three months. We’ll give you an appropriate estimate when we book your service call.

  • While we do love clocks, both collecting and repairing, we take the business of repair and restoration very seriously. The Bartholomew family has been in the business for over 50 years, studying under the best clock restoration masters and passing down the knowledge from generation to generation. There’s no amateur tinkerer in our family. We are passionate about great machinery and priceless antiques.

  • Sometimes. We have a large network of collectors all across the United States, so if we can match a buyer with a seller, we’re happy to make that happen. Give us a call and let us know what you’re looking to purchase or looking to pass on and we’ll see what we can do to give you a hand.

  • Southeast Austin. You’re probably really looking for an address, but we repair out of a dedicated shop in a home. This is one of the most difficult decisions we’ve ever made. We know that having a commercial spot makes it easier to come by whenever you’d like, but the real estate market in Austin is a little too hot and the overhead of maintaining a location open to the public would mean we had to pass on the cost to our customers. When you couple that with the fact we’re a true repair shop and don’t have a retail arm where we’re holding inventory, it just didn’t make sense to do that to our clients. So if you’re wondering how we’re able to keep such a great reputation and keep pricing reasonable, it’s because we don’t have a commercial space.

  • Absolutely. Every repair comes with a one year warranty. If your clock stops for any reason, we’ll happily come out and get you running again. We do give strict instructions on caring for your timepiece after a repair is done, so as long as you follow the rules, we’ll back the work. And if you make a small mistake, we’ll usually help you out. Just don’t throw it in the bathtub.

  • Maybe a little too insured. Because we’re dealing with priceless heirlooms, we carry a $1 million policy to protect your beloved treasures. We’ve never had to use it, and we intend to never need it, but it is in place and we’re happy to share the documents with you as needed.

  • We always wear a mask when visiting homes and maintain whatever distance the client prefers. If you are concerned about vaccination status, please give us a call and we can discuss with you. (As we are a two person team, we’d prefer not to disclose medical information publicly.)

  • We’re open to it! We know it’s hard to get into clock repair without hard earned time. So if you’re passionate about horology and looking to break into the market, reach out.

  • We do not, but another Bartholomew does. Oldest brother Frederick Bartholomew owns Promenade Clocks in the Dallas area. If you have a piece that you’d like repaired, he comes highly recommended (though we might be biased).
